My aunt came to visit us. She first inquired about my health. I was touched that a seventy year old diabetic with all sorts of other ailments was concern about my well being. But as soon as I told her I was fine, her eyes immediately lit up and asked me, "Have you give a thought on settling down, you know, marriage?". Now a days every conversations I have with anybody invariably leads to only one thing- how right I am for matrimony. In fact, I feel like a ripe mango hanging in some public park with many well wishers who are worried that I might become bad (as in over ripe decay) before someone could pluck and eat me. I smiled and thought it would be over at that. But no! My aunt’s inquisitive eyes just wouldn't give me a break. She was waiting for a reply..... a positive reply at that......
Some weeks ago it was my ten year old nephew who called me (they are in another city in the North). He wanted me to buy every toy he had seen in the 'cartoon network' and 'pogo' and sent it to him. He told me how many tricks he could do with a 'yo-yo'. In turn I told him to be a good boy to his parents. He pause for some time and I thought 'good, the boy is thinking', but the next moment he asked, "Uncle, when are you having an aunt?" "Why?" I asked really surprised. "My friend Rahul's aunt also give him a lot of toys too," he reasoned. May be for innocent reasons, but my nephew is also asking for his aunt. He knows that an uncle should be with an aunt.
So, my aunt's twinkling eyes were waiting for a reply. If I told her I have no plans to marry, her already heavy breathing would stop. "Poop!" her eyes would come out. And if I told her I have a secret boyfriend, there was a good chance she might die there in my room.... after slapping me hard. I didn't want that to happen, so I quipped, "Aunt, one got to have a girl to marry." "Ah! About that, I know just the right girl for you. She is ............"
